A little correction for you: while Sancerre produces superb reds from Pinot noir, Pouilly-Fume is 100% Sauvignon blanc.

Around 50% of the red grapes produced in the Loire Valley are Cabernet franc and in the regions where it is most at home and arguably at it’s finest – Chinon, Bourgueil, Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil and Saumur-Champigny – it is not blended.

And please don’t forget the world-class Sauvignon blanc white wines of the Touraine: I drink it almost every day of the year!

We just sampled 4 so I’m sure there are some that I would enjoy. That is great to know about the organic wine movement and I’m excited to learn more about Loire Valley wines!

The variety of the Loire Cabernet Franc wines is huge! It depends on the terroir, the way the grapes are vinified and, of course, the skill of the individual viticulteurs. The fact that there are so many small producers of wine in our area is a great attraction, some might not be to your taste, others you will just love. There is a great movement towards organic wines here, produced by some enthusiastic young viticulteurs producing great wines.
